Discover Country Burrito Bar And Grill

If you’re driving down Hardin Valley Road and your stomach starts making decisions before your brain does, Country Burrito Bar And Grill at 10636 Hardin Valley Rd, Knoxville, TN 37932, United States is the kind of place that pulls you into the parking lot without much resistance. I’ve stopped in more than once after long afternoons covering local food spots around Knoxville, and every visit has felt consistent, generous, and refreshingly unpretentious.

The first thing that stands out is the aroma-grilled steak, warm tortillas, sautéed peppers. It smells like a proper Mexican kitchen should. The menu is broad but not overwhelming. You’ll find burritos packed with carne asada, slow-cooked carnitas, and grilled chicken, alongside tacos, quesadillas, nachos, and hearty rice bowls. On my last visit, I ordered the house country burrito stuffed with seasoned beef, rice, black beans, pico de gallo, and a blend of melted cheeses. It arrived tightly wrapped, evenly grilled, and heavy enough to require both hands and a serious appetite.

As someone who has spent years reviewing regional restaurants, I pay attention to technique as much as flavor. Here, the rice isn’t clumpy or bland; it’s fluffy and lightly seasoned. The beans are creamy without being watery. That balance matters. According to the National Restaurant Association, diners consistently rank flavor authenticity and ingredient freshness as top priorities when choosing where to eat. You can taste that attention to quality here, especially in the salsas. The green tomatillo salsa has a bright acidity, while the red salsa carries a smoky depth that pairs beautifully with grilled meats.

I once brought a group of five colleagues after a long day of fieldwork nearby. Instead of individual orders, we tested the kitchen with a mix of items-steak tacos, shrimp quesadillas, loaded nachos, and two different burrito styles. The turnaround time was reasonable, and nothing came out cold or rushed. That kind of consistency across multiple dishes speaks to a well-managed kitchen process. The staff moves with purpose, calling out orders clearly and assembling plates with practiced efficiency.

Nutritionally speaking, burrito bars often get criticized for oversized portions, but balance is possible. Registered dietitians frequently note that customizable meals-like those offered here-allow diners to control protein, fiber, and calorie intake. If you’re mindful, you can opt for grilled chicken, extra vegetables, and lighter toppings. If you’re not, well, the queso and sour cream are absolutely worth it.

The dining area feels relaxed and approachable. It’s not trying to be upscale; instead, it leans into a casual diner vibe that works for families, students, and office workers grabbing lunch. Reviews from locals often mention friendly service, and that matches my experience. On one visit, I watched a staff member patiently walk a first-time customer through the menu, explaining the difference between barbacoa and carnitas in simple, clear terms. That kind of hospitality builds loyalty.

From a broader perspective, Knoxville’s food scene has grown significantly over the past decade, with more diverse dining options appearing across neighborhoods like Hardin Valley. Independent spots like this contribute to that growth by offering dependable, flavor-driven meals without inflated pricing. While I can’t speak to every single item on the menu, the core offerings-burritos, tacos, grilled plates-are solid and repeat-worthy.

Parking is easy, seating turnover is efficient during lunch hours, and takeout orders are packaged well enough to survive the drive home. If you’re scanning restaurant reviews and wondering whether it lives up to the buzz, my firsthand experience says yes-especially if you’re craving a filling, customizable Mexican-inspired meal that delivers on taste and portion size without overcomplicating the experience.

  • Hidden Gem! Don't let the name fool you, this is a very good restaurant with authentic Mexican food. I started with the 8 oz.Texas Top Shelf Margarita, which was delicious. And then I ordered the Arrachera, skirt steak, grilled onions, and shrimp served with lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, avocado, Spanish rice, charro beans, and three tortillas. It was a lot of food, and I was impressed with the almost whole lime I got along with a roasted pepper. Yum! The food is definitely above average and my husband and I will return when we're driving by.

  • Food came out fast but server didn’t pay much attention. Corn tortillas weren’t cooked right so fell apart right away. Margarita didn’t seem like 12 oz. Carne asada has good flavor!

  • Friendly greeting at the door for my to go order. All requests were accommodated from online ordering. Food was hot and fresh. The Arroz Texano plate was awesome! 3 meats, veggies and cheese dip over rice is the move! Steak quesadilla was loaded with steak. Only downside was the shredded beef taco. Flavor was lacking.

  • The best Mexican food in town! I love the atmosphere, the drinks are amazing, and the service is excellent.

  • Was suprised by how good the tacos were. The carnitas street tacos were juicy and fresh, the pastor had pineapple and the asada had that grilled taste to it. Salsa bar was cool (no hot carrots like o the west coast though which sucks). Nice staff and clean environment. We will be back

  • The chimichanga was amazing, the chorizo quesadilla lacked flavor. The rice and beans are very delicious, as well as salsa. The service was great, there was no wait and the lunch prices were very reasonable! Not a place we will get to visit often but we would go again and try something else.
